STEP THREE
Listen to Jesus
Jesus explains that the way to get to know our Heavenly Father, is to get to know him, because Jesus is God’s Son. But how do we get to know Jesus?
Well, the Bible gives us four biographies of Jesus, which will help us get to know him. In the fourth biography (called a “gospel”), the Apostle John tells us why he wrote his biography of Jesus. He chose the events and details in his biography to help us see and believe that Jesus is the Son of God, so that we might have “life in his name.” John says elsewhere that true and eternal life is “that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent” (John 17:3 ESV). The point of John’s biography is that we would believe Jesus is God’s Son and know God better through what we read of him.
Do you want to get to know your Heavenly Father better? Jesus can tell you about him and Jesus can show you what he is like. You can meet Jesus in the gospel of John.
BIBLE STUDY
John 14:6
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
(New International Version)
John 20:30-31
Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

ACTION STEP
Take Step Three
- Read the book of John. You can read it in whatever Bible you have, or here on our site. It may make the most sense to you if you choose a version that is easy to read, like the NIV or NLT translation or an essentially literal translation like the ESV (ESV is what our site features). To set your expectations, it takes about two hours to listen to John as an audio book, so you may want to split this action step up into a few days. Or you can read the book in one free afternoon!
- As you read, ask, What does Jesus tell me about my Heavenly Father?
- If you’re a note-taker, journal about the answers to this question you find in the book of John.
