And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
Real life, the life we were created for, is a life defined by a relationship with a person. Life, true life, is about knowing God—both now and forever.
And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom he has sent.
Many think they want a relationship with Jesus but they don’t count the cost of following Jesus. Jesus doesn’t promise us ease, safety, health, wealth, or material blessing. He promises us much better, deeper, richer, lasting things—things our soul needs. And the greatest gift he gives us is to know him.
Indeed I count everything as loss in view of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
Jesus offers you life today, and by offering you life, he assumes that you don’t have life, and are in fact, headed toward death. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23 ESV). God’s gift of grace, forgiveness, love, and life are offered to you freely, because Jesus paid the cost for these things himself on the cross out of his great love for you.
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
The Bible describes those who have received eternal life from Jesus as his disciples. A disciple follows someone, and grows to become more and more like their teacher. Those who believe in Jesus as their Savior also bow to, follow, serve, love, and trust him as the Lord.
Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
What is the mission of people who follow Jesus? To tell every nation the good news about Jesus that we read about in the Bible.
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
Followers of Jesus are so confident in his love for them and committed to their Savior that often, they endure persecution for their faith. Those who follow Jesus endure great opposition, but we follow our suffering Savior by responding with love.
Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
