The Bible Doesn’t Need to Be Defended

Here’s your weekly word of biblical encouragement from Bibles.net! Enjoy this short video devotional or read its contents below, adapted from a message by Pastor Britt Merrick.

The video above will remind you of the power of God’s Word and encourage you to proclaim it!

“To reject Jesus and his work and to reject Scripture is to reject thousands of years of history and his word. To reject Jesus and the Bible, you had better have some astounding, time-enduring evidence to do so. Because the Bible—it’s God’s book—has stood the test of time.

Now let me tell you something about the Bible. The Bible does not so much need to be defended as it needs to be proclaimed. And I would think we would find ourselves having to do less defending of the Bible if we did more proclaiming of the Bible, because there is power in the Word of God. It’s living and active (Hebrews 4:12). It doesn’t return void without accomplishing the purpose for which it was sent forth (Isaiah 55:11). It is the very true, powerful, living Word of God.

What the Bible needs is to be proclaimed more than it needs to be defended.

Listen, you will be old and gone and dust and gone and the Bible will still stand. The Bible needs to be proclaimed in what it says and what it is—God’s Word.”

Is the Bible God's Word?

The Bible consists of 66 different books written over hundreds of years by many authors. The Bible claims to be the Word of God, but also explains that God communicated his own thoughts, works, and heart through human authors. God inspired men to write his Word, and oversaw the process of authoring and preserving the Scriptures until they came together as God’s complete revelation.
