Creeds and Confessions: What Are They and Why Use Them?

Confessions and Creeds serve as helpful, straightforward resources for discovering what Christians believe about God. Let’s look at both these types of formal statements of faith individually and discover how they are used today.

Verse
1 Corinthians 15:3-5 ESV

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

Definition

Creeds

There never was a man in the world without a creed. What is a creed? A creed is what you believe. What is a confession? It is a declaration of what you believe. That declaration may be oral or it may be committed to writing, but the creed is there either expressed or implied.
