Kevin DeYoung

When you meet Kevin DeYoung, you’ll encounter a joyful, thoughtful guy, wise beyond his years. Kevin’s causal, down-to-earth demeanor is one of his most winsome qualities. He doesn't ever put the “Dr.” he earned next to his name, boast about his enduring pastoral ministry for one so young, having begun at age 26, or toot his own horn that he and his wife Trisha have nine kids.

God has gifted Kevin with a wonderful intellect, and gifted God’s people with Kevin’s ability to take complex ideas and perplexing truths and make them plain for everyone to understand. Kevin’s writing is always clear, orderly, and will make you laugh—even when reading one of his more theologically heavy works.

Kevin DeYoung is now pastoring his second local church in North Carolina, while teaching classes at Reformed Theological Seminary. He has written over a dozen books, and has written countless articles. He writes especially well on the subjects of homosexuality, race, gender roles, busyness, the Ten Commandments, family worship, and holiness. But, we know that you’ll enjoy anything you read from Kevin, and will discover that he stands confidently on the Word of God. We believe that knowing Kevin DeYoung will be a great blessing to you when you run into questions about these subjects and want to find biblical answers.

I was converted through the
instruction of my parents
and by the sitting under the
preaching of the word
Sunday after Sunday from the time I was born.

Kevin DeYoung: Glory in the Ordinary

Although this article was written a while ago, when Kevin had 6 of his 9 kids, it will help you get to know how Kevin became a Christian and a pastor, and his outlook on life.

I have the great

a boring testimony.
I have one of those
stories where
I can’t recall a day
where I didn’t know of Jesus.

The “I” in Faith

True faith, according to the Bible, is a very personal matter. (This article was recently retitled "The Devil Is Not in the Details").

Quote

What If I Have a Boring Testimony?

Sometimes we think that those of us who grew up in a Christian home, knew Jesus, and went to Church, have a very boring testimony. But I hope you realize that we, more than anyone, have everything to thank God for. For all that he kept us from, all the kindnesses in our lives, all of the myriad of blessings and miracles and favors and things that we never saw and all of the roads that we thought would have been wise that would have led us right into danger but God knew better and took us a different way.

Christianity Is About Saving Sinners

by Kevin DeYoung at his blog

Quote

The secret of the gospel
is that we
actually do more
when we hear less
about all we need
to do for God
and hear more
about all that
God has already done for us.

Quote

The Danger of Busyness

Busyness kills more Christians than bullets. How many sermons are stripped of their power by lavish dinner preparations and professional football? How many moments of pain are wasted because we never sat still enough to learn from them? How many times of private and family worship have been crowded out by soccer and school projects? We need to guard our hearts. The seed of God’s Word won’t grow to fruitfulness without pruning for rest, quiet, and calm.

But Jesus said,
“Let the
little children
come
to me
and do not
hinder them,
for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Quote

One Obstacle to Bible Reading

Question: What’s your #1 obstacle to Bible reading? How do you overcome it?

Answer: No doubt, my number one obstacle is getting to bed on time the night before. I have eight children, so despite my best efforts I can’t always control when I go to bed. But I know that spending time in the Word actually starts the night before.
